Machno Carwyn

Carregcoch Bleddyn x Machno Ceridwen

Details:

Double individual gold medal-winning stallion!

Machno Carwyn is a sporting phenomenon.  A ‘genius’ in every sense of the word.  He is everything that a rider could dream of:

Permanently willing with an unshakable courage, an instinctive desire not to touch a pole, unlimited ability, a remarkable jump, responsive to any challenge.  But it’s not just his virtually unequalled international results that make you admire this pony: it’s his composure in competition and over fences.  He had a very individual way of seeing things and of living them.  Carwyn manufactured one clear round after another. He had eyes at the tips of his hooves, an almost human judgement of take-off that was never wrong, a perfect balance between strength and spirit.

He has more than 200 official placings; 130 of which are in international competitions.  He won more than 50 classes, including 7 international Grand Prix.  2 European Gold medals; 4 Swiss Gold medals and a Bronze medal in the Swiss national championships.

Biography:

Machno Carwyn was born at the Machno Stud in Penmachno, N.Wales.  His breeder, Meirion Jones, successfully crossed his sire, a strong Welsh Cob, with his dam, a fine, lighter sport model.

Machno Carwyn was approved as a stallion by the Welsh Cob and Pony Society in Wales in 1995.  He was turned out with a herd of mares in England for a year.  In 1997, at the age of 4, he was exported to Switzerland and approved as a stallion by the two Swiss stud books: SVPK and Poney Romand.

Machno Carwyn started his sporting career as a 5-year-old in 1997 and very quickly showed he was a force to be reckoned with in national classes in Switzerland, then in the small international classes in 1998 as a 6-year-old.

In 1999, at 7-years-old he started competing in CSIP Grand Prix, placed 3rd at Cinzano (Italy).  He was selected for the European Championships at Strömsholm (Sweden) where he finished 11th in the individual finals.  He went on to win the Swiss Championships.

In 2000, he became the first stallion in the history of the European Championships to win the individual finals at Hagen, in Germany.  He took the crown from Shining Starr Aristo who had been number 1 of the Top 20 European international pony performance stallions for the past 10 years.  During this competition season he was also placed five times in CSIP/CSIPO Grand Prix: 8th at Verona (Italy), 3rd at Lons-le-Saunier (France), 5th at Bracciano (Italy), 2nd at Cinzano (Italy) and 3rd at Corminboeuf (Switzerland). He was crowned best pony over the whole of the CSIP/CSIOP classes at Corminboeuf, Cinzano, Bracciano and Lons-le-Saunier.  He won the Swiss Championships for the second consecutive year.

At Vejer de la Frontera in 2001 he managed to snatch the title of individual European Champion for the second time.  Only one pony had done it before him: a certain Colton Maesltrom…he was Swiss Champion for the 3rd year running.  He also won the CSIP Grand Prix at Cinzano (Italy), Lons-le-Saunier (France) and Modena (Italy) and finished 2nd at Corminboeuf (Switzerland) and Chartres (France), 3rd at Mechelen (Belgium), Liège (Belgium) and Nichelino (Italy).

In 2002, he was placed 2nd four times in CSIP Grand Prix at Cinzano (Italy), Fontainebleau (France), Lummen (Belgium) and Liège (Belgium) and was 8th at Welkenraedt (Belgium).  He then finished 4th in the individual finals at the European Championships at Lanaken (Belgium), after only a few months training with his new young rider, and was 3rd at the Swiss Championships.

In 2003, he was placed in every CSIP Grand Prix in which he took part.  He won at Courlans (France) and Cinzano (Italy), finished 2nd at Arezzo (Italy) and Marsens (Switzerland), 3rd at Liège (Belgium), 5th at Moorsele (Belgium) and 6th at Le Touquet (France).  Kept out of the individual finals at the European Championships in Ireland because of one time fault, he consoled himself by bringing home the Top Pony Trophy at the Swiss Championships as well as four P5 classes (the highest level in Switzerland).

In 2004, he was placed 2nd and 3rd then 7th in the CSIP Grand Prix at Corminboeuf (Switzerland); 3rd, 1st then 3rd in the CSIP Grand Prix at Cinzano (Italy); 6th and 2nd in the CSIP at Le Touquet and participated in the European Championships for the sixth time, at Jaszkowo in Poland.  He finished joint 4th at the end of the two qualifying rounds for the individual finals (joint with the title-winning European Champions), but an unfortunate fall in the second round of the individual finals deprived him of an additional European podium place.  He stopped competing definitively to be dedicated to breeding, his owners having decided to let him have the retirement he had so well deserved.

MACHNO CARWYN has won more prizes in Europe than any other international pony stallion (what a shame there isn’t a world circuit for ponies…!) more than 200 placings in show jumping of which 130 in CSIP and over 50 wins, more than 30 placings and 7 wins in CSIP Grand Prix, two gold medals at the European Championships and four gold medals and one bronze at the Swiss Championships.

His first foals born in Switzerland in 1998 included Mac Carwyn, who competed nationally in Switzerland and internationally from the age of 6, before being exported, where he continued jumping in international competitions.  Other foals born in Switzerland include Malforin Mac Baloubet (from a french-bred Welsh Cob mare, Brise Matinale) an approved pony stallion, who was sold to the UK and was the first stallion to receive 3 x the note 10 (maximum) when he was approved in England.

A number of his foals have jumped successfully in national competitions:

·       Brindille de Bel Air (from a Swiss bred mare, Blackie du Bel Air) and her full sister, Badine de Bel Air

·       Thuja’s Carusa

·       Malforin Poco Loco (from the Dutch bred New Forest mare Pocahontas)

·       Maxwell IV CH

·       Macleen de l’Essert (from the Irish mare Air Hostess)

Many of Machno Carwyns' offspring have excelled in other countries all over Europe such as: the UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Spain and Italy together with the USA.  But, it is very difficult to obtain verifiable results as France seems to be the only country who publishes the Sire's name.

The following French-bred decendants have distinguished themselves in the French national jumping/showing competitions:

·       Nath Carwyn du Serein, (from the French bred mare, Sweet Love de Palmaroux) French national 3 yr old Filly Champion in 2004

·       Style de Blonde (from the French bred mare, Pin Up de Blonde by Linaro, Poet) French national vice-champion colt foal in 2006; 4th in the French national 2 yr old colt championship in 2008; 3rd in the French national 3 yr old colt championship and approved as a stallion.

Sire Info

His sire Carregcoch Bleddyn, measuring 1m50, was approved by the Sports Pony Studbook Society at his first approval in October 2001 and was classed as Elite. He has powerful natural paces, showing strength, elegance and great conformation with plenty of bone. He was a good winner in hand in numerous championships, always placed in the top three. His grandsire and great grandsire on his father’s side Cathedine Express and Parc Welsh Flyer (the latter being a breed leader by the indubitable Pentre Eiddwen Comet), both hold the title of ‘Premium Stallion’ amongst others, which indicates that they were classed in the top five at the Royal Welsh Pony Show or at Lampeter Stallion Show, the most important breed shows in Wales. Cathedine Express won the Three Counties in 1991, as well as being placed at the Royal Welsh, at Lampeter Stallion Show and at the Glanusk Stallion Show. Parc Welsh Flyer won his class at the Royal Welsh as a 3-year-old and the Lampeter Stallion Show three times!

Dam Info

Machno Ceridwen combines the very best of Welsh Sec B and D blood. On the Sec B side of her breeding she carries 2 crosses of Downland Chevalier, 2 crosses of Solway Master Bronze. Her dam, Hillin Wendy, has Keston Royal Occasion as a grand sire and descends from the famous Hillin Wennol dam lines. From this, she brings the beauty and elegance, blood and good character typical of the Welsh B, to the breeding. She is sired by Tylan Danny. He was the son of the late Nebo Daniel, himself son of the late Nebo Brenin, and all 3 held the title of ‘Premium Stallion’. Nebo Daniel won the Supreme Stallion Championships at the Royal Welsh Show in 1988. Machno Carwyn is therefore ¾ Welsh D, which gives him his strength, power and long stride, and ¼ Welsh B, from where he gets his suppleness and chic.
